Caring for the community is TSO tradition
The Doctors of TSO have a long-standing commitment to caring for their patients and the communities they serve. Education is an important part of their commitment. That’s why you will frequently see the TSO name connected to scholarship programs across the great state of Texas.
Houston Rodeo Scholarship Program
The Doctors of TSO have been contributors to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Youth and Education Scholarship fund for many years. A portion of your eyewear purchases at TSO goes towards a four-year scholarship for a deserving high school senior. By helping our community, our patients share in TSO’s commitment to Texas Youth and Education. This is especially important since research has confirmed that 80% of learning is visual and critical to a good education.
See A Better Future Scholarship
Over $50,000 has been designated to a new “See A Better Future” college scholarship program this year to demonstrate TSO’s commitment to the overall well being of youth and to the importance of good vision for achieving academic excellence. $1,000 is being presented this spring to 2009 graduating senior high school students planning to attend an accredited two year or four year college. Awards were granted in collaboration with local high school guidance counselors based upon the applications they receive. The criteria for evaluating applications are the student’s dedication to helping others through volunteer service, demonstration of leadership skills and a genuine interest in furthering their education. Financial need and academic standing may also be considered. Look for next year’s scholarship information and applications this summer on www.tso.com or pick up an application at your neighborhood TSO office.
Advancing the Optometry Profession
Optometrists are eye care specialists who check vision, prescribe glasses and contact lenses, diagnose and treat conditions and diseases of the eyes. Investing in the University of Houston College of Optometry through annual scholarships helps the optometry profession maintain high standards and attract the most qualified students for its programs. Three $2000 scholarships are awarded by the Doctors of TSO each year to third year students of the University of Houston College of Optometry to help them reach their educational goals. To earn a Doctor of Optometry degree requires four years of study at an accredited optometry college or university in addition to a four year undergraduate degree in a related field. TSO doctors are proud to help support new doctors studying the profession of optometry to promote healthy vision for the families of Texas and the southwest.
